This Friday the White House will be honoring the school
counselor of the year for the first time ever! The event will be live streamed at 1:30 Eastern. This is a great way to kickoff National School Counseling Week, February 2nd - 6th.
How will you be celebrating the role of professional school
counselors? The American School Counselor Association has a daily photo challenge. We have Technology Centers in Oklahoma who use this month to
acknowledge and show appreciation to partner school counselors. As a school counselor, this might be an opportunity to create
awareness about the appropriate roles of school counselors and other important facts, by placing a treat and a informational display in your teachers lounge.
My Friday will be filled with taking a personal thank you to a few of my
colleagues, who have a fond place in my school counselor heart. I also will be
taking time this week to complete a school counselor of the year nomination for an Oklahoma school counselor.
School counselors are vital to student success,
school climate and systemic change. I encourage you to find a unique way, to acknowledge and celebrate
the important role of school counseling this week.
